Public Safety Center

Public Safety Center

Location: San Rafael, California
Project year: 2015
Client: City of San Rafael
Area: 44,000 sq ft (4088 sq m)

Program:
Integrated facilities for Fire and Police Departments. The building will meet LEED GOLD certification.

Summary:
The new Public Safety Center will provide state of the art facilities for the city’s Fire and Police Departments. Deign challenges include harmonizing the requirements for public access, functional integration, and safety; complex circulation that needs to respond to strict fire and police response demands, and sloped terrain adjacent to residential properties. The design solution emphasizes the public significance of the building. Focal point is the plaza which provides a welcoming, protected from the elements entrance and opportunities for public events. The public space seamlessly flows into the main lobby where visitors, fire, and police personnel meet.
